Other Happenings

My sister-in-law Jessica, her family, and my two brother-in-laws came to visit with us for a few days. Calvin and Wesley are the youngest in Derick's family and we hadn't seen them in two years (since the wedding.) We were really excited for them to come. I was sad to see everyone leave this afternoon.

Calvin lives in Washington and Wesley is working in Wyoming so naturally they thought it was pretty warm down here- we even had a cold front come through. This is a pic of them playing with their nieces Natalie and Ashtin.
Shhhhh don't tell anyone, but I think they both will make great dads one day. They were awesome with the all the kids running around this weekend. It was really cute when Wesley was holding cousin Tighe's bottle in his mouth with one had and eating with the other at Cracker Barrel this afternoon. This is Uncle Calvin holding O'lena the other day. I think he must have held her for two hours or more. She was so content! This is daddy falling asleep with the baby. I thought it was very cute too!O'lena turned two weeks on Monday. Here are a couple of pictures of her being cute. FYI- The van is parked. We were hanging out at the gun range while the boys were shooting. Yes, the girls got to shoot too. Not the babies though. They had to stay in the car :)

Merry Christmas 2009

This year life was definitely different. We have our baby!! The best Christmas present ever! I did get a bit nervous that she wouldn't have come in time, but she did, and with time to spare. The day was bit less hectic than previous years. We started the morning at mom's with breakfast and presents. Then ended the day at Cookie's and Al's house for dinner. I even got a nap in between! Of course there were a lot of pictures taken of the baby. Here are some. I need to get a few off my parents' camera too.

This is a picture of the "family" at Cookie and Al's after the Christmas Eve Service at church. Christmas morning opening up stockings. Yes, this is a guitar hat for when she will be playing Rock Band with daddy and uncles. Thanks guys-- Just cute picks of a baby!

This is a video that we (O'lena and I) made to say Merry Christmas!

O'lena is a week old!!!

I cannot believe it has been a week already! She is so wonderful!
Things are going great! Today was my first day by myself with O'lena. Derick went back to work, but it is only going to be for a couple of days. He gets from Christmas until the 4th off. It has been wonderful having him around so much. He has been awesome! I officially have to say he has probably change 3 times more diapers than i have.
She has been great so far. We had one day where she cried from 2pm to about 3am until I put a pacifier in her mouth. I felt really guilty because the books and lactation consultants say not to use them, but it was the only thing that worked. She loves it now and I really haven't had a problem with breastfeeding because of it. I just think breastfeeding is a learning process for the both of us. We are working it out.
Labor and delivery was fantastic. Postpartum stinks! I think I might cry more then she does, but it is getting better. I am learning really quickly that there is alot of ways to do things.
Exciting news! Her little stump of an umbilical cord fell off yesterday. She has an official belly button now. She is growing up so fast!!!
Yes, it has taken me a week to post pictures but I am learning quickly that taking care of a baby is time consuming. I have to plan when to take a shower and go to the bathroom. I am going to try to get video up of the delivery soon. Not the actual delivery part but the afterness of her getting cleaned up and everything. It is on my list to do- just like 15 other things. Oh well :)

O'lena Lynn!!

I am so sorry that it has taken me so long to get these up! It has been a bit interesting around here lately, but hey- better late than never, right? I made a smile box about the labor and delivery. I think it is kind of fun. If you feel inclined, you should be able to print it.

Now for all the gory details- probably more than you ever want to know, but like they say, all modesty goes out the window after delivering a baby.

I started to have labor contraction on Sunday night around 6:30 ish. Derick and I have been walking around the neighborhood at night and that normal sent me braxton hicks, but they would subside after we got home and I would rest. These contractions kept coming- but were irregular and short so we went to bed. At about 1am I got my bloody show, but the contractions had subsided a bit. Of course I could not go back to sleep after that so I was us doing stuff- watching White Christmas, laundry, cleaning the kitchen. You know the normal stuff that the doctors tell you to do in early labor. (They don't, they tell you to sleep- yeah right!) I was still having contractions, but it was nothing fast or regular so I sent Derick to work. I had also decided to call the midwives because I was paranoid that my water had broken the day before- it hadn't, I was just being paranoid. I had gotten an appointment for 11:10 to see them at their hospital office. Luckily, my mom had stayed home and was able to drive me there. My contractions were coming more regular and harder. Derick being at his own doctor appointment met us at the hospital when we got there.
The midwife checked me out- I was about 2 1/2- 3 cm dilated but the contractions were nothing rigorous yet. She striped my membranes, told me to go walking for a couple of hours and come back. Since Derick and mom needed to eat some food we decided to go walking to Five Guys- which was across the street from the hospital. All I wanted was french fries but they wouldn't let me have any!! (You weren't suppose to eat anything heavy, in hind site I am very glad I didn't!) After our walk, which was fun because he had to stop every 3 minutes for a contraction, we went back to get checked out again. I was a good three cm dilated now and the contractions were more regular and intense. I couldn't talk through them anymore- that is a good sign- The midwife was like "Yep- You're in active labor." We decided to stay and get admitted into the hospital and she was going to come up and break my water in little while to really get things going. We got up into the room and I was contracting pretty hard, well hard for me at the time. I decided to go get into the tub they have. It felt soooo good. It definitely helped with making the contractions bearable, but then my water broke, in the tub. Yeah- that was the coolest feeling in the world. It was just like "pop!" Even in the water. The sucky part was they made me get out. And man did the pain turned on!!! I don't know how people do it with out meds!!
I did opt to get an epidural, but it was going to be awhile before it came and I was in pain and progressing quickly. So I decided to get a shot of Demerol. It was okay, but it put me to sleep and then I would wake up at the peak of a contraction and hated life. The epidural came in at 5cm and was the best thing ever made! My anastegologist rocked! They said I had a good one- epidural- because I could not feel a thing. Towards the end I was somewhat able to feel when I was in a contraction but that was about it. It was cool. I progress really fast after that- I was ready to push at 9:40 ish.
The actual pushing took only 40 minutes. They said I was a good pusher :) Derick and Mom were great coaches! I always forgot to breathe. Well I actually didn't forget, I was just concentrating on something else. Derick was there, mom was there, my step dad Jim and my brother Brannon stayed to watch. It was really funny because Brannon stayed behind my head and wouldn't look until they convinced him in the heat of the moment. They also convinced me to touch her head when she was crowning. It was really cool. They also convinced Derick to help "catch" her. He wasn't even sure if he wanted to cut the cord, or watch, but he ended up holding a leg, seeing EVERYTHING and helping to deliver her. He loved every bit of it! O'lena Lynn arrived at 10:26pm.
She came out all nice and gooey but the most beautiful thing I have ever seen!!! Oh it was so awesome!!! She was bright eyed and crying. She did have some gurgling so they had to use the sucky vacuum thing to get some of the amniotic fluid out of her belly. Oh she was wonderful! Goodness!!
So after all the hoopla that fallows the delivery- oh we got to see the placenta and the sack!! That was really cool.- We got up into the room that we were going to be staying to finally get some sleep. The hospital stay was nice, having people to help and ask questions. O'leana was great too. She slept alot but had nice periods of awakenesses. After the a-okay from the pediatrician and midwives we left on Wednesday to head for home. It was sad. I didn't really want to go- that means she will be growing up. But all in all it was the best experience of my life! I would do the whole thing all over again!

This is what I made at school on Friday before I delivered. I have to confess, I was a bit board. She came on Monday. I never made it back to work. :)

Thanksgiving....camping?

Yes, we went camping for Thanksgiving. Yes, I am 9 months pregnant. Yes, it was somewhat hard, but fun! Where we camped is only about 20 minutes from our house so we were still in close proximity to the hospital if anything happened. We headed out Wednesday and came back Sunday. We enjoyed ourselves, but were ready to come home. I have to admit, I did head back to the house to sleep in my bed on Saturday night. I was proud of myself for staying out that long. I was good too about not getting up every two hours to pee. It was a hike to the bathroom. I think I lost count of trekking it to the bathroom at 32 times since Wednesday we got there. My mom said something about my brother counting too and he got up to 47. Wow peeing 47 times in less than 100 hours. Well that averages about every 2 hours or so. hummmm.... anyways I'll stop talking about my body functions. I lied...not yet.

Baby news: there really is no news. When I went to the dr on Tuesday I am still just only 1 cm dilated, 60% effaced, and -1 or-2 station. For everyone else who has no idea what that means: nothing much going on. We go again on Wednesday. Keep your fingers crossed for some kind of progress.

Just another fun picture. This is of everyone holding Kevyn down to take care of some "business." You will have to ask him. (I didn't want to embarrass him on the world wide web.)

Teasers!!!

Our newly married, very talented, friend Cassie took some maternity pictures for Derick and I. These are just a few that she sent me. I think we took over 80 something, so there will be a lot more, but I just like showing these off. She did such a great job!!! I will post the lot of them when they are done with the editing process.

So busy, but nothing going on

Life has been busy. Getting ready for a baby takes a bit of effort, but I think we are almost there. Here are some pictures of what we have been up to for the last month or so.

This is Derick putting together the baby equipment. We are ready to at least feed her, sleep her, travel her, and swing her when she decides to come.

Halloween!
Bryan was on the float committee for his high school for their homecoming. The parents' house was the port for the construction of the pirate ship. They still had it in their back yard at Halloween, so we brought it out dressed as pirates and gave out candy from it. I think the kids liked it. We had fun :)
Me sporting my "I heart my bump shirt" at work. As my principal says "You know it's not a bump any more. It's a ball!"Here is 8 months- 32 weeks 9 months- 36 weeks

I can't really tell a difference in the pictures. I think I was just really big that night we took the 32 weeks. I am bigger now...well i think. We have only about 3 and a half weeks left and I am feeling it! It does not feel good to stand or walk or move or sit or lye down or drive or move my legs. My poor feet are so swollen and don't go down like they used to at night. And the pressure!! I understand now what they were talking about. I know i am complaining. Derick is great though! He has been so good. He even wakes up with me at my "every 2hour pee" at night to help me up out of the bed.

I have started my weekly appointments too and have one next week Wednesday. This past one the midwife was like "I won't say your 1 cm, but you are close." She also said I am getting soft so that means the process has started. D-Penny is head down and I hope thinking about coming out. Her moving arounds have started to become painful too. It feels like she is getting too big for the inn. She has also been having fit of hick-ups. Those are fun. She likes to play with my bladder at times too.

Well, baby room is almost done and so are the maternity leave plans for school. Just waiting for the day to arrive..........

Bouncing Bow

I love this picture. I think it is so cute. We had gone over to my mom's house for my birthday dinner (salmon, broccoli, and coke cake from Cracker Barrel!!) I had put the bow on my belly and we were watching it move all around. It was quite cute. Thanks for the dinner mom!

Some more pictures

This is Derick playing in the pool with our nieces. It was a great surprise having them come. They have a little one too, Tighe. He is 3 1/2 months old. It was nice to have a perspective of what it is going to be like in a couple of months. He was able to break in the crib for us too ;) Yeah, Derick did that to them....
This is the christening that my mother in-law made for the baby. Isn't is amazing?! I could not believe it!! This is Sebastian looking at the camera when I was taking a picture of the chair for my grandma.

In baby news: no news, really. I turn 8 months on Tuesday and go for another check up. I think I have started the braxton hicks contractions. Theyare only a couple times a day and don't hurt really bad yet. I just feel my uterus tighten up for a few seconds then let go. It is kind of weird thinking that my body is practicing and we will have a baby in the matter of 8 weeks, or so. Another thing I have been doing lately has been changing my mind. The things I had decided on earlier in the pregnancy I don't like any more or change what I want. Poor Derick isn't pleased. So many decisions though! I am getting the urge to nest. We got the rest of our essentials so if the baby comes now we have the big things. That makes me feel better.
I would like to ask for a pray too. My aunt is in the hospital and needs all the help we can give her. Just say a little "God, please give her some strength" I think that will help. I really appreciate it.
